Hiking in Northern Georgia

February 20-22, 2004

The mountaineering group went on a weekend hike to the foothills of Northern Georgia. We arrived there around 6pm on Friday night and started hiking up Blood Mountain around 9pm because the guys had to park the cars on like the opposite side of the mountain so we wouldn't have to trek back to ride home.. We hiked in the dark for a good 2 hours up a steep mountain. There was absolutely no light at all, so we had to deal with the small flashlights provided. It was drizzling a little bit but wasn't too bad at all. We stayed in a shelter where we encountered a skunk that kept waking us up all night... Luckily nobody got sprayed. Perhaps he was chasing the rats that were crawling into our packs and eating our food. Anyway, we had a really nice hike and although I wasn't very well prepared, it was a great workout and a nice getaway from the Columbia area.
